Water Quality Data Program

Project Chief: Cory Angeroth, USGS Salt Lake City, UT
Cooperators:
Period of Project: October 2002 - September 2010

Problem

Water resource planning and water-quality assessment require a nationwide base level of relatively standardized information. For intelligent planning and realistic assessment of the water resource, the chemical and physical quality of the rivers and streams must be defined and monitored.

Objectives

To provide a national bank of water-quality data for broad federal planning and action programs and to provide data for federal management of interstate and international waters.

Approach

Operation of a network of water-quality stations to provide average chemical concentrations, loads, and time trends as required by planning and management agencies.
